How students perceive natural and human‐made risks on the island of Madeira (Portugal)

In this study the spatial perceptions of students about likelihood natural and environmental risks were examined, considering both mainland Portugal island Madeira. It intends to understand how perceived risks, taking into account causal attributions, future tendency, support from public entities, as well willingness attitudinal changes with respect mitigating reducing risks. The results suggest that have a relatively low perception analysed risk forest fires, heatwaves, air water pollution, floods most likely occur, mainly consequence climate change intensification. Gender proved be variable greatest influence on perception, particularly in terms occurrence personal risk. These could important for improvement strategies resources applied educational context order reduce disaster strengthen resilience community at large.
